83
Hug a Veteran
The NEBRASKA SKY video
2002-04 Jamboree for 83 were held in conjuction
with a trail ride through the Diamond Bar Ranch in Stapleton. Free country
music by NIGHTLIFE, plus Gary Phipps and other types of entertainment.
Auctions of donated items were held. As well as antique tractor/baler
demonstrations, quilt show, Patriotic craft show, and memories of the
"Canteen" from North Platte.
Refreshments have been served along Highway 83 on certain dates
Winner of the First annual Jamboree for 83 award for representing the
highway ideals was Sen. Chuck Hagel, a Vietnam Veteran.
The NE Veterans
of Foreign Wars Memorial Highway 83 is a non-profit group, run as a mission/ministry.

One
of the activities of the Jamboree for 83 Welcome Home party for Veteran's
on Father's Day was the memorial canteen. The Banner Mothers Extension
Club made food items similar to the historical canteen. Pictured are Veteran-
Charlene Walz, Margaret Armstrong- VFW Aux., Al Ewoldt- Veteran, Maxine
Lovitt- VFW Aux. and Jim Chapman retired Col Air Force (present Veterans
Service). All are from Stapleton.
